I think you are an incredible writer, Matthew. There are some lines in here, some thoughts that are mindblowingly stunningly awesome. Like the soul flying out of the box. Just wow. Like Sally, I didn't really understand it, but I really wanted to, and I think it's worth you going back in and finding something else, something more, to tie it all together, because it's really really REALLY cool!

Thank you Francesca for reading and your lovely comments. On this border between memoir and fiction (is there really one?) there seems to be much fertile ground.

Read some of Illicit Croissants this morning. Loving it.

It’s such fun to dilly-dally on the border of memoir and fiction! It’s filled with so many what ifs… I’m glad you’re enjoying my croissants :) xx

Fascinating and yet for me, a very 'questioning' overall read Matthew........I'm sure it is my ignorance that I kind of didn't understand it, even after reading it twice. I was desperately searching between the all the lines for somewhere for it to sit within me and tell me a whole story but I felt it only alluded to bits of stories, that my mind tried to make up the rest. Was that your aim? I often have to read your work twice to understand how you have worded something, then I get it. Were you getting the reader to fill in the gaps perhaps? However, I am in no way criticising it at all Matthew but you asked us for our thoughts. It is probably my scientist brain and limited reading of literature perhaps and to others I am sure it made perfect sense. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thanks Sally. Fir your reading and these insightful comments.

There’s whole piece is constructed (shaped) from eleven very short pieces which were originally written in response to the Microdose challenge. That was 70, 80 or 109 words to a prompt. There was no connection originally. But I thought I detected a theme so I wondered what would happen if I fitted them together without significantly altering the originals.

The result, as you so rightly picked up, is something that lacks answers or full coherence. The seams show.

But as an experiment abd a look inside my head, I’m intrigued as to what the fk is going on in there.

Phew!!! I was worried I’d said too much. And you made me laugh out loud!!

Yes for me it was a bit like crevasses of I kept slipping through. 😜🤣

I think there is a theme…..and it’s really great you wove those fragments together I leave mine cast everywhere!

We all need to get out what the fks in our heads! It’s essential for us after a life time of living in the left hemisphere!
